The former vice president of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Fred Pappoe has expressed worry over the deteriorating state of Colts soccer in Ghana.

In an interview on Asempa Fm, he said the challenges that face the development of Colts soccer is that there are too many Colts teams scattered across the country. Therefore it is difficult to provide support that will meet their needs he added.

“Sometimes I go round just to watch these children play and it’s amazing the kind of talents and skills they have, all they need to improve upon such skills is for them to be nurtured” he noted.

He also stressed that due to the fact that money is now hugely part of football, everybody wants to form a Colts team hence the rapid increase of Colts clubs in the country.

He also expressed that if Colts clubs in the various regions will come together as a club then the development of street soccer will move forward. This will make it easy to organize tournaments and other competitions for them. He cited Real Tamale United (RTU) as an example and said RTU was formed out of all the colts clubs in the Northern region.

COLTS SOCCER CAN DO BETTER IF……...

The Colts soccer system in Ghana today, is on the verge of collapse due to its neglect by Football organisations in the country.
However with little attention Colts soccer will regain it standard to help develop football in Ghana. The major challenge that street soccer face in the country is sponsorship. Unlike the first, second and third division clubs in the country, street soccer does not receive support from the Ghana Football Association.
The responsibility therefore falls on the owners of these clubs to provide support that will meet their needs. Thus for both club and the playing body as well.
Some Corporate organisation has however tried to support the growth of Colts soccer in the country. Airtel Ghana limited as part of their corporate responsibility introduced the Airtel Rising Stars project. This initiative according to Airtel will seek to unearth soccer talents in schools and communities through regional tourneys.
Many soccer enthusiasts lauded this initiative and believed it would help rescue the deteriorating state of Colts soccer in the country. However not much has been heard after the launch.
I believe that, what colts soccer needs is that the Football Association must include them to also benefit the sponsorship packages received for our leagues. Match officials must also be allocated to supervise matches during the Colts league.

IS CITIZEN JOURNALISM A THREAT OR A CHALLENGE TO PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISM

Citizen journalism to a large extent is both a threat and a challenge to Professional journalism. In the sense that though a citizen journalist is not formally trained as the professional journalist, they all strive to attain a similar interest that is to inform and educate the public.

Citizen journalism becomes a threat to professional journalism as they sometimes do not thrive to attain journalistic standards. That is publishing any information without vigorous research or thorough follow ups, to make sure the stories they publish do no lack quality and content. The audience then begins to question credibility and authenticity of the information they receive from the media.

Colts soccer in many years has been the system through which many of our football icons were identified and nurtured into our national teams.
Street soccer as it is sometimes referred to, is played basically in every community in Ghana. This ranges from the small poles, four corners to one community against the other.

BANKU RETAINS TITLE

First Published in the Ghanaian Times

Golden Mike Promotion’s night of ‘Moment of Truth’ nearly turned to be a ‘Moment of Shame’ when fans expressed dissatisfaction with some of the verdicts last Saturday.
One of such verdicts was the controversial win of the night between Ghana’s Ebenezer Lamptey and his Ecuadoran opponent Eduardo Flores for the Super Lightweight Championship. After the 12 rounds, many fans expected the verdict to go in favor of Flores but the judges scored the bout 115-112, 114-113 and 117-108 in favour of Lamtey. This result angered some of the spectators who in response shouted “Ecuador… Ecuador” to register their displeasure.
Lamtey’s body language after the fight proved that he was defeated as he could not even jubilate as expected after the judgment was given.
